报告题目:Tracing Space Points, a View of Discrete Time Series Modeling

Given a set of n-dimensional space points in Rn, measured timely (in another word, such a set is called a discrete time series). A natural question is: can we find a function f: Rn →Rn which can trace all the points in the given order? Mathematically, this function should satisfy the “tracing requirement”: for . Such a function is called a mathematical model of the time series. This talk will address the recent development and advances on this topic. With focus on the functions made of polynomials, methods of constructing desired models, effective algorithms developed and algebraic theories behind them, techniques of obtaining “good” models, and some practical applications will be presented.

This research is cross disciplinary and collaborative in several areas of intense research including applied mathematics, computational algebra, algebraic geometry, and bioinformatics. Currently Students in master and undergraduate levels are involved in this research, including students from China.
